about
it should come as no surprise to those who know me, that when the air finally gets cool and the leaves begin to fall, there's only one album to properly break in the fall season - that being type o negative's seminal 1996 album 'πππππππ ππππ' - and i know i'm not alone in this sentiment - like a lot of other 30-somethings with a history of metal adoration such as myself, this was a quintessential release growing up.
in my case, i was a 7th-grader who was already familiar with 'ππππππ ππππππ' via duped cassette tape, who then heard "be my druidess" on louisville's 100.5 THE FOX (during daytime programming at that), and was utterly smitten - so much so that i would periodically call into the station and request it - i ordered my skeleton crew hat and "suspended in dusk" t-shirt from the latest rockabilia catalog, signed up for the band's street team, and then begged my parents to include the CD in their next columbia house order - in no time, my mom ended up falling in love with the album (she said it reminded her of black sabbath, and it was also pretty obvious she was swooning over peter's vocals) - we'd frequently blast it on the sound system in our basement, and in the car while driving around town - not to mention the countless times on the school bus it was spinning on my discman.
i've been sitting on these recordings for about a year now, and had planned to drop them the first of october, but i feel like today is just as good a day as any to make them available to the public - perhaps its the "green man" in me, and the emergence of spring that ultimately persuaded me - i don't do a lot of cover songs (remixes and reworks are a different story), but i got the urge to my own unique rendition of arguably two of the most notable songs on 'october rust', those being "love you to death" and "be my druidess" - building these monumental tracks from the ground up wasn't an easy task - i really don't consider myself the greatest vocalist - i'm tolerable at best and in small doses - but i'm at least proud that i really put myself out there with these cover versions - i have such a deep appreciate of both of the originals, and hope i did them justice.
enjoy. π
